The FTC is investigating the acquisition of bungie by PlayStation, which could affect when the treatment is closed. Earlier this year, PlayStation announced its intention to buy bungie for 3600 million dollars. The treatment was huge, since Bungie was once a study owned by Xbox and is responsible for creating the largest franchise of the head of the platform in Halo. Since he separated from Microsoft and left Halo behind, Bungie has been working in the Destiny series, which has proven to be so successful that it has helped generate many other live services titles. As such, PlayStation saw the value in the developer and sought to pick them up. The news came to light shortly after Microsoft announced the acquisition of Activision, but Sony said his agreement had been in process for months.
Now, the FTC has opened an investigation into the acquisition of bungie by PlayStation. This does not mean that something bad has happened behind the scene, but the investigation is mainly used to comb the details with a fine -tooth comb. According to the information, the investigation can delay the closure of the treatment more than six months. According to reports, the FTC is becoming more aggressive in reviewing this type of agreements as they become more prominent. The agency is also concerned that Sony makes Bungie games exclusive to PlayStation, but the owner of the platform emphasized that this would not be the case when the agreement was announced.
From now on, the agreement is expected to close at some time at the beginning of 2023. It seems unlikely that the agreement will be blocked completely while Sony maintains your promise to keep Bungie games on multiple platforms. It seems more likely that Sony use the developer to strengthen their free games and FPS offers, in addition to giving Bungie the resources to expand their worlds outside the games when using Sony Pictures for movies or programs. We are likely to listen more about all specific plans at some time next year.
